Floral-Etched Langseax Sword — 18-Inch Hand-Forged Viking Seax with an Etched Blade
This is a hand-forged floral-etched langseax — an 18-inch single-edged Viking seax sword forged in Nepal from 5160 leaf-spring steel, full-tang and water-tempered, with a flowing flower-and-foliate pattern etched across the polished blade. It is the most decorative langseax in our range: a true working long seax built to be looked at, with a rosewood handle and a leather scabbard.
The langseax — the long seax — was the sword-length sidearm of the Saxons, Norsemen and Germanic tribes, carried from the Migration Period through the Viking Age. This one keeps that form and turns it into a display piece: the whole blade face is worked with an etched floral motif, the kind of ornamentation that marks a blade out as something special rather than plain working steel.
Underneath the decoration it is still a real blade — an 18-inch single edge on a full tang, sharpened and ready, with a 6-inch rosewood handle and a steel bolster. It is the langseax to choose when you want presence on the wall, a standout reenactment piece, or a gift that does not look like everything else on the rack.
Honest note: this is an original Everest Forge design. The floral etching is a decorative motif rather than a historical one — early medieval seaxes were marked with pattern-welding or inlay, not flower engraving — so this is a historically inspired langseax with modern ornamentation, not a museum-exact replica. It is live steel — sharp, full-tang and functional — made for cutting, reenactment, collection and display, but not for contact LARP or edge-on-edge sparring. Want a different etched pattern or a specific design? That is a custom build.

Choose your options →An Etched Blade, Not a Plain One
What sets this langseax apart is the etching. Where most seaxes leave the blade plain, this one carries a flowing floral pattern worked across the polished steel from ricasso to point — decoration that catches the light and turns a working blade into a centrepiece. It is offered in satin or polished/mirror finish precisely so the etching reads clearly; the brighter the blade, the more the pattern stands out. Pair it with a custom engraving if you want a name or date set alongside the floral work.

Caring for Your High-Carbon Seax
5160 is a high-carbon steel and will surface-rust if neglected. Keep the blade dry, wipe it down after handling, and apply a thin coat of protective oil before storage — taking care to keep the etched areas clean and lightly oiled. For long-term storage, keep the seax out of its scabbard so the edge stays dry.

What is a langseax?
A langseax — the long seax — is the sword-length form of the seax, the single-edged blade carried across the Saxon, Norse and Germanic world from the Migration Period through the Viking Age. Longer than a utility seax, it served as a warrior's sidearm. This one is an 18-inch langseax with an etched blade.
What is the floral etching?
It is a flowing flower-and-foliate pattern etched across the polished blade, from ricasso to point. It is decorative work that makes this the most ornate langseax in our range, turning a plain working blade into a display centrepiece.
Is the floral etching historically accurate?
No, and we say so. Early medieval seaxes were decorated with pattern-welding or metal inlay, not floral engraving. This is a historically inspired langseax with a modern decorative motif — an original Everest Forge design, not a museum-exact replica.
Is it a sword or a knife?
At 18 inches it is sword-length and handles as a single-edged short sword, while keeping the everyday usefulness the seax was known for. The langseax sits between large knife and short sword by design.
What steel is it made from, and is it full tang?
It is hand-forged from 5160 high-carbon leaf-spring steel, water-tempered for toughness and edge retention, and built full-tang for strength and balance. That makes it a functional working sword, not a display-only piece.
Does it come sharpened and ready to use?
Yes. Each blade is hand-sharpened and ready to use on arrival. It is live steel — sharp and functional — so it is not suited to contact LARP or edge-on-edge sparring.
Why are there only satin and polished finishes?
Because the floral etching needs a bright surface to read against. Satin and polished/mirror both show the pattern clearly, while raw-forge or blacked finishes would hide it, so those are not offered on this blade.
What blade lengths can I order?
The standard blade is 18 inches. You can order it from 16 inches up to 26 inches for a larger, more commanding display piece.
Can I choose the handle and scabbard?
Yes. Handles come in rosewood, white-wood, horn and combinations such as rosewood and bone or rosewood and horn, and the yak-leather scabbard is available in black, brown, yellow, red, green and blue.
Can I add my own engraving?
Yes. You can add a name, initials or a short message alongside the floral work, or upload a logo or photo for custom engraving. Personalisation is included at no extra charge on standard builds.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We ship worldwide by tracked, insured DHL or FedEx with secure checkout. Please check edged-weapon import rules for your country before ordering, as they vary.
How do I care for the etched blade?
Keep this high-carbon blade dry, wipe it after handling, and apply a thin coat of protective oil before storage, keeping the etched areas clean and lightly oiled. For long-term storage keep it out of the scabbard so the edge stays dry.
